License Server Notes

April 2012

3.006 Release 5

Sending the “Check out list” could potentially throw an exception.  This is internally caught, but should of course be avoided.

On service startup the service may produce an error with the following details:
“Unexpected Error: Call was canceled by the message filter.”
This can be thrown before the WMI services have been fully initialized during a machine start-up.

November 2011

3.006 Release 4

Internal changes for future developments.  This was to simply add the functions to provide the clients with the product availability information.

July 2011

3.006 Release 3

Added support for Virtual Machines, where the IP address of the machine is recorded.

June 2011

3.006 Release 2

The previous set of changes for 3.006 R1 introduced a small issue where the license modules were not checked-in immediately. This could cause the server to incorrectly “run out of licenses” during a simulation run.

April 2011

3.006 Release 1

Added support for USB licensing in combination with the license server. This allows the license server to be installed and used on a virtual environment. Under certain circumstances the banned and allowed list was not working as expected. The control panel could potentially throw an exception when it is closed, after being opened and used for a long period of time. When licenses are acquired and release in quick succession, from numerous machines the license server may not check all of the modules in correctly. Added module counts to the license server, which allows for better monitoring of how many specific modules are currently checked out. The company and user name details are now also recorded for further logging information. The number of “banned/allowed” machines was strictly limited to 30 – this has now been changed to be any required number. Modified the Windows registry writing code, to instead write to the XML registry file.

July 2010

3.005 Release 3

Updated and corrected the products download page, added support for Windows Vista and Windows 7. The program will now warn the user that it must run in admin mode and restart itself appropriately. Added support for use with PLEXOS Connect® The license file (and common folder) were being installed at a fixed location. This location was the Program Files – Energy Exemplar folder. The license file will be stored in a common folder relative to the actual installation path.

May 2009

3.005 Release 2

A DNS (Domain Name Server) lookup was undertaken for each client license request. This occasionally results in a DNS/Firewall warning. The code has been changed so that no DNS calls are made unless the administrator has added clients into the “Banned List”
