In this presentation, BP focussed on a tractable, simple off-grid hydrogen production system with the combination of solar PV and onshore wind for power generation, electrolyser for hydrogen production, hydrogen storage (and battery storage and grid connection, when specified) to meet a given hydrogen demand.
The model optimises the sizing of each component for minimum hydrogen production cost, for given demand profiles and operational constraints (under perfect foresight, unless specified). BP have used the gas and power modules in PLEXOS for this work and also explored the stochastic functionality in PLEXOS for a resilient solution given the uncertainty with weather patterns.
