This presentation will introduce practical best practices for improving electric vehicle load forecasts and evaluating the potential value of EVs as flexible grid resources. It will present a benchmark of EV forecasting methodologies and planning practices across major electricity markets and regions in North, Central, and South America, including CAISO, ERCOT, IESO, ISO-NE, MISO, NYISO, and PJM.

The presentation will examine how EVs have been represented in recent Integrated Resource Plans and identify opportunities to improve their treatment in long-term resource planning and demand forecasting. Particular attention will be given to approaches for representing EVs in PLEXOS capacity expansion and production cost models, including their potential roles as passive load, flexible demand, managed charging resources, and vehicle-to-grid resources.

Participants will gain practical approaches for evaluating the customer and power system value of EV programs. The presentation will demonstrate how alternative charging strategies, customer participation frameworks, and grid-service applications can create benefits for both customers and the power system.
