Day 1 Schedule of Events
PLEXOS Power Basic Training
Introducing the PLEXOS Power Basic Training Workshops
This training will introduce modelling practices in PLEXOS for planning and operations related to renewable and hybrid energy projects. The training will cover how the entire lifecycle process is optimised, from long-term planning to short-term portfolio operations, and how it is used to power a carbon-free future.
Key Takeaways include:
- Renewables Lifecycle: from planning to operations; key considerations for integrating long term planning and short-term operations
- Addressing Custom & Policy Driven Constraints
- Comparative analysis of deterministic scenarios vs. Monte-Carlo simulations vs. Stochastic optimisation

PLEXOS Gas Intermediate/Advanced Training
Advanced Gas Storage Modelling in PLEXOS Gas
Gas Storages are more than just commercial assets but also fill the role of infrastructure critical to our domestic, and in some cases regional, energy security. Accurate modelling of storages is a key strength of the PLEXOS Gas Module, but presents the average modeller with a greater challenge to fully and comfortably model these techno-economic dynamics.
In this first half of the session we will go through these advanced features, their set-up and when and how to use them.

Integrated Planning Horizons & Chronology
In this session we introduce capabilities in PLEXOS to run the different horizons separately. How PLEXOS handles the different phases will also be elaborated.
different planning horizons are as follows:
- Long Term Planning (10 - 50+ years)
- Reliability and System Adequacy (1 - 5 years)
- Medium Term Schedule (1 - 10 years)
- Short Term Schedule (1 day - 1 year)

Markets, Financial Contracts & Bid-Based Modelling
The deregulation of the energy markets and the technological breakthroughs in the energy transition are bringing many more stakeholders into the energy markets. Many countries are moving to and some have already introduced completely deregulated market structures where different players can freely participate in the markets.
PLEXOS provides options to model and simulate the energy market behaviour and offers the functionality to maximise the company's portfolio profits, provide a market clearing engine, as well as balancing optimisation approach to the market operators.

Case Studies & Scenarios
Putting the features and functions addressed in the first half into practice
- How does PLEXOS manage non-market interventions such as target fill mandates, with optimising overall system costs, and are these optimised results realistic?
- How can we, the user, employ different hard and soft constraints to achieve a compromise between optimised insights and realistic gas market behviours without relying on exogenous "overconstraining" of the model?

Custom & Policy Driven Constraints
With the ongoing energy transition, there is an emphasis on many different policies and technical limitations required to be considered in the modelling and simulations. PLEXOS offers the flexibility to model and simulate such customised and advanced constraints.
In this session, the modelling of custom constraints will be discussed and the application for different policies or obligations will be presented.

Modelling Uncertainty for Renewables & BESS
The increased penetration of Renewables brings many uncertainties into the system. Very often, Batteries (BESS) or other energy storage systems are required to guarantee the uninterrupted supply for such intermitted energy sources. PLEXOS provides the functionality to model and consider the uncertainty in the decision making process.
In this session, the modelling of uncertainties, renewables and BESS will be discussed. The use of Monte Carlo sampling and Stochastic optimization will be presented. Although the practical examples will be mostly focused on renewables and BESS, the same modelling approach of uncertainty can apply to for ex. Gas Prices, Load, Market Prices, etc.

PLEXOS Power Intermediate/Advanced Training
Gas & Power2X Hydrogen & NH3
Modelling integrated systems including Power, Gas and Hydrogen are becoming the new norm as a more holistic approach to the energy future. PLEXOS offers the functionality to capture the different commodities and their infrastructure and processes in a single modelling approach. It can further accommodate the modelling of ammonia or any other Power2X commodity that may be required.
In this session, the approach to modelling Gas and Hydrogen system will be presented from different aspects and different long term planning and short term operations horizons.
