Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has selected PLEXOS to develop Thailand’s Grid Modernization plan and accommodate upcoming disruptive technologies into the long-term integrated resource planning
Energy Exemplar today announced a new partnership with Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT). This partnership will allow EGAT to accommodate upcoming disruptive technologies that are required to decarbonize the grid and support policy recommendations.
EGAT are positioned to find benefits of this new partnership to include:
- A unified platform for optimized short-medium term operation and least-cost long term integrated resource planning,
- Assurance that the new Power Development Plan (PDP) meets Thailand’s generation capacity expansion planning criteria. Including, Expected Unserved Energy, Reserve Margin, Operating Reserve and Loss of Load Probability (LOLP),
- Ability to model new technology candidate power plants such as the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), Demand Response, Electric Vehicle, Power2X, etc. and
- Sub-hourly modelling and simulations to ensure reliable operation of the system with high penetration of renewable energy generation.

EGAT is Thailand’s leading state-owned power utility under the Ministry of Energy, responsible for electric power generation and transmission for the whole country as well as bulk electric energy sales.
