Navigating Resource Adequacy in the Renewable Era: Global Insights and India’s Path Forward

The global energy landscape is transforming rapidly with the surge of renewable energy (RE) integration. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), global RE capacity is projected to reach 10 TW by 2030—exceeding existing commitments by nearly 25%. This remarkable growth is essential for decarbonizing power systems but presents challenges for grid reliability due to the variability and intermittency of RE sources. To address these challenges, system operators worldwide are rethinking capacity planning and adopting robust resource adequacy (RA) practices to ensure a secure and reliable electricity supply.

This webinar begins by examining global trends in renewable integration and the accompanying RA challenges. We will discuss how countries with high RE penetration are implementing advanced planning frameworks to manage uncertainties and secure a cost-effective, sustainable power system. Case studies will highlight how systematic RA planning can lead to cost-optimal investments that align with energy transition goals.

We will then explore the significance of advanced modelling frameworks, with a focus on PLEXOS, a leading tool for simulating RA in complex power systems. PLEXOS enables stakeholders to test scenarios, stress-test the grid, and design solutions that maintain reliability in a renewable-rich future.

Turning to India, we’ll discuss recent developments in renewable energy and grid modernization. With the introduction of a multi-tier RA framework at national, state, and DISCOM levels, India is making strides to integrate renewables while ensuring reliability. We’ll review the current status of India’s RA planning, emerging policies, and the path forward.

The session will conclude with key lessons from global case studies, reflections on India’s journey, and a synthesis of why RA is critical in the renewable era. The webinar will cover:

  • Global renewable integration and RA challenges
  • Advanced modelling with PLEXOS for effective RA planning
  • India’s renewable growth, grid developments, and RA frameworks
  • Comparative insights and best practices from around the world

Join us to gain insights into navigating RA challenges in a renewable future while supporting India’s power sector transformation.

Harnessing the Winds of Change: The Future of Green Energy in a Turbulent Present

In an era of political, policy, and environmental uncertainty, the future of renewable energy remains a critical question. In the United States, the political landscape has shifted dramatically—from a focus on reducing carbon emissions to prioritizing energy reliability. This transformation is driven largely by surging demand from data centers, prompting an “everything is on the table” approach to energy policy.

The current administration is emphasizing high reliability at the lowest possible cost, positioning renewables as a compelling solution. With zero variable costs and minimal capital investment, renewables offer the most cost-effective generation compared to traditional dispatchable resources. But how can renewables extend their advantage while maintaining reliability in an evolving energy market?

In this presentation, experts from Energy Exemplar will decode the administration’s energy policy direction and examine the projects that renewable energy stakeholders are exploring to navigate this uncertainty. Through high-level analysis of diverse energy initiatives, this session will demonstrate how PLEXOS provides certainty and dependability in complex energy planning.

Supporting Renewable Investments in EMEA

With AI driving explosive growth in data centre demand, energy is fast becoming the defining constraint — and opportunity — for the sector. From grid access to carbon neutrality, the choices made in the planning phase can make or break long-term feasibility.

As the renewable sector scales, investors face increasingly complex decisions across project lifecycles—from identifying opportunities to optimizing long-term returns. Successful capital deployment now depends on the ability to evaluate market risk, revenue potential, and operational constraints through robust, scenario-based modelling.

In this webinar, we’ll explore how PLEXOS empowers renewable investors to:

  • Forecast market dynamics, including capture prices, congestion risk, and cannibalisation effects
  • Quantify project profitability and IRR under multiple long-term scenarios
  • Optimise Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) based on pricing risk and flexibility options
  • Mitigate risk through stress testing and understanding revenue volatility
  • Inform portfolio strategies using co-optimisation of hybrid assets like wind + battery or solar + hydrogen

Join us for a walkthrough of how PLEXOS supports strategic decisions across the renewable investment lifecycle, backed by real-world use cases and market insights.
