How to Decarbonize Industry
Learn practical strategies to reduce emissions across hard-to-abate sectors.
The global energy system is undergoing a profound shift. As countries and corporations pursue net-zero goals, energy-intensive industries such as steel, cement, chemicals, and automotive manufacturing are facing growing pressure to decarbonize. This three-part webinar series, Decarbonizing the Industrial Frontier, explores how industrial players, energy planners, and policymakers are identifying smarter energy pathways to reduce emissions, manage risk, and enable long-term transformation.
Across the series, we will examine the evolving intersection of energy systems and industrial demand, highlighting the technologies, investment strategies, and policy frameworks shaping the path forward. From fuel switching and carbon abatement to electrification and infrastructure optimization, the series offers practical insights into how heavy industry can become a cornerstone of a net-zero future. Participants will also explore how integrated modeling and data-driven planning can support more resilient and economically viable outcomes.

Heavy industry plays a pivotal role in addressing the global climate challenge. As one of the largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions, following power generation and transport, it is responsible for both indirect emissions from high energy use and direct emissions from industrial processes. These emissions are deeply embedded in the production of essential commodities such as steel, aluminum, and cement.
Decarbonizing this sector requires more than a shift to clean energy. It calls for a fundamental transformation of production methods, including changes to high-temperature processes, fuel inputs, and the technologies used across the value chain. Achieving deep decarbonization means evaluating a complex mix of pathways such as hydrogen, carbon capture, electrification, and circular feedstocks. Each option must be considered in light of cost, policy support, technological maturity, and long-term risk.
In this webinar, we will explore the practical and strategic challenges involved in reducing emissions from heavy industry. We will look at how system modelling and scenario analysis can support better decision-making in this complex environment, where trade-offs between cost, carbon, and operational feasibility must be carefully balanced.
Using green steel as a case study, we will examine how energy and infrastructure modelling tools can help assess long-term investment strategies, evaluate alternative production configurations, and plan under policy and market uncertainty. These approaches are critical for identifying scalable and economically viable pathways to industrial decarbonization. The webinar will cover:
