Each month, we highlight the latest enhancements made across the PLEXOS® platform to help you model faster, plan smarter, and collaborate more effectively. In the December 2025 update, learn about PLEXOS® 12 Beta, streamlined support with live chat, new automation capabilities, and an expanding library of PLEXOS® Playbooks and Simulation Ready Datasets.
PLEXOS® is a growing energy modeling platform trusted by utilities, system operators, governments, and analysts around the world. Built for flexibility and performance, it simulates electric, gas and water markets to help users make better planning and operational decisions. PLEXOS® continues to evolve with enhancements to usability, engine performance, and cloud-native workflows.
As of 29 December 2025, PLEXOS 9.2 will officially reach its end of support milestone. While you may still use this version, no further updates or technical assistance will be available. We encourage all customers to upgrade to a supported release. Please connect with your Customer Success Manager if you need assistance with the upgrade beyond what’s covered by standard support to discuss available options.
PLEXOS® 12 is the next generation of our simulation engine, designed to be more scalable, more intelligent, and easier to integrate with your enterprise stack. It introduces powerful new modeling logic and streamlined workflows that align with evolving market designs and data science practices. Now available for early access, PLEXOS® 12 beta delivers key upgrades:
Try it today via the PLEXOS® Marketplace, customer portal, or directly within PLEXOS® Cloud.
The PLEXOS® 12 series will continue evolving throughout 2026, and we plan to include:
PLEXOS® Cloud brings simulation, collaboration, and automation together in a single unified environment. This month’s updates deliver improved visibility, smarter prioritization, and enhanced Excel integration, helping teams move faster and work more efficiently.
The PLEXOS® Cloud Excel Add-In now integrates directly with DataHub, letting users browse and extract files from the output tab without leaving Excel. This streamlines workflows by keeping all Cloud and DataHub interactions in one place. A new configuration table supports both single and bulk extractions, making it easier to manage files, run recurring analysis, and compare post-processing outputs, all within Excel.
Recent PLEXOS® Cloud Excel Add-In updates improve usability by allowing notes in sheets, auto-displaying units like MW and GWh, and clearing outdated data when new layouts are loaded. Previous solutions remain visible even if the model name changes.
Recent updates improve how teams prepare, prioritize, and track simulations. Enhancements to pre- and post-simulation tasks streamline execution by allowing teams to automate key steps and standardize workflows across studies.
Simulation management is now more flexible, with numeric priority settings that allow users to control the execution order of queued runs. This ensures time-sensitive simulations are completed first. The version cards layout has also been redesigned to improve readability, highlight commit messages and provide easier navigation with a searchable history.
PLEXOS® Intelligence is the in-platform AI assistant that helps users query outputs, troubleshoot issues, and accelerate workflows using AI and built-in automation.
The December release adds more automation and in-app support to simplify your day-to-day modeling.
Users can now start a live chat directly from the PLEXOS® Intelligence interface. If a response doesn’t fully answer the question, the user can choose “start live chat” to connect with a Support Analyst instantly. This provides immediate help and eliminates the need to leave the platform.
The new automation agent allows users to create ready-to-run Python scripts using natural language prompts. The agent is trained on Energy Exemplar’s Cloud CLI and Python SDK, enabling it to handle study management, file uploads, and simulation automation without manual coding. This significantly reduces scripting time and accelerates workflow setup in PLEXOS® Cloud.
PLEXOS® Playbooks are pre-built, simulation ready workflows designed for common planning and operations use cases. They help users get started faster, reduce setup time, and produce reliable outputs, without needing deep expertise in every feature of the platform.
Simulation Ready Datasets are pre-validated, configurable models designed to reduce setup time and help users start analysis immediately.
Customers can now access these datasets on the customer portal and PLEXOS® Marketplace.
Energy Exemplar remains dedicated to continuous development, bringing you the most powerful and user-friendly energy modeling solutions available. Stay tuned for even more exciting features coming soon!
