What's New - May 2025
This launch, we’re delivering significant updates to PLEXOS® Cloud, new Playbooks and Insights, and expanded simulation-ready datasets. All designed...
This month’s What’s New edition delivers product advancements, including, expanded automation, smarter simulations, and faster insights across the PLEXOS® platform. Each update cuts friction so you move from setup to strategy faster and with greater precision.
In this What's New:
Distributed simulations can now run with memory-efficient paging. Previously available only for single runs, this enhancement improves scalability for large datasets while optimizing compute credit consumption.
All outputs, including charts, maps, and reports, are now presented in a consolidated dashboard view. This change shortens review cycles and promotes cross-functional alignment by giving every stakeholder a consistent lens to view results.
This release improves reliability across cloud workflows by adding validation messages for infrastructure-related failures during cloning, changeset creation, and study creation. These messages provide clear, actionable feedback to help users identify issues early and reduce sync failures across collaborative modeling tasks.
This release brings enhancements for analytics users. Users can now visualize better with new map layering functionality on the solutions page, thus allowing users to reorder data cards, bar charts, and heat maps for clearer spatial analysis. Add nodal analysis layouts to dashboards for deeper congestion insights by combining congestion data with other simulation outputs in a unified view. Improve readability with conditional exponential formatting in nodal analysis, which automatically converts large or highly precise numeric values to scientific notation. These updates enhance how users view, interpret, and communicate results across congestion and scenario analysis workflows.
The simulation page now displays changeset version, average memory, and CPU usage for each run. Users can access full simulation records directly from solution cards using the view simulation button. CLI download performance has also been improved for pre- and post-processing tasks, enabling faster, more reliable automation.
Users can now access Datahub directly from the PLEXOS® Cloud interface, eliminating the need for external links. Changeset version numbers and details are also shown upfront in the study dropdown, making it easier to track version history and ensure model accuracy.
Enter multiple date from/date to entries for time-varying properties, with each treated as a unique input. One-to-one membership fields now feature dropdowns for faster, error-free selection. Validation checks have been added to the datafile query config table to flag issues early. When switching studies, users can now choose whether to clear or retain loaded sheets, supporting better comparison workflows and reducing the risk of accidental data loss.
A new “Standard User” license is now available for users who need access to the platform but do not run simulations, consolidating non-simulation roles into a single license type. Contract expiry notifications are now shown in-platform and via email to alert administrators ahead of renewal deadlines. Nodal data sets are now synchronized at the account level, ensuring consistent access across all permitted users in the tenant without manual user-level assignment.
DataHub is the cloud-native storage and access layer for the platform. It centralizes input data, simulation results, metadata, and study artifacts in a structured, governed space that is tightly integrated with PLEXOS® workflows and tagging via the Data Catalog.
With DataHub, users can use the CLI to upload, download, delete, search, and organize reusable assets, then prepare inputs for simulations. This improves repeatability and collaboration, giving teams shorter time to results, clear lineage on every file, and a reliable backbone for daily Marketplace updates.
Now available to all PLEXOS® Cloud customers through May 2026 at no extra cost. Desktop users with Central License Manager (CLM) licensing also gain core AI assistance.
PLEXOS® Intelligence provides automated model diagnostics that highlight infeasibilities, compare scenarios, and audit key assumptions-saving hours of manual checks and boosting confidence in planning results.
In-platform guidance answers modelling questions, links to the right documents, and resolves common issues directly within PLEXOS® Cloud, PLEXOS® desktop, and PLEXOS® Cloud Excel Add-in.
Existing users can now browse and request access to PLEXOS® Insights products directly within PLEXOS® Cloud Marketplace. This streamlines the licensing process for existing customers and improves visibility into content availability. If you’re not an existing customer and are interested in our PLEXOS® Insights products, schedule a demo with one of our experts!
Currently available PLEXOS® Insights include:
• PLEXOS® Insights for ERCOT – CRR Trading
• PLEXOS® Insights for North America – Gas
• PLEXOS® Insights for CWE – Short-term Trading
• PLEXOS® Insights for CWE – Medium-term Trading
• PLEXOS® Insights for Europe – Gas (LA)
The PLEXOS® Insights portfolio covers power and gas across key markets and horizons. Each package delivers browser-based dashboards and an API for fast analysis, preconfigured views tailored to the workflow, and regularly refreshed outputs such as prices so teams can move from results to decisions quickly.
Purpose-built Playbooks have been released for integrated resource planning (IRP), short-term power trading, and gas-electric market coupling. These Playbooks include preset scenarios, logic, and reports to minimize setup time and align with standard workflows.
Excel file integration is now supported in Playbooks, enabling faster model setup and customization. Playbooks and Insights are available on the Marketplace, giving users easier access to packaged workflows.
The PLEXOS® 11R04 release delivers new features, defect fixes, and enhancements, available now via the Client Portal and the Marketplace. Highlights include major improvements to the maintenance class for co-optimized maintenance scheduling, targeted customer-requested updates, and the closure of multiple Xchange ideas. Full release notes and downloads are accessible through the Client Portal.
This month’s releases focused on ensuring compliance with upcoming market changes and enabling customers to participate in market trials within the sandbox environment. The update also includes urgent project tickets and bug fixes, along with ancillary format updates for non-generation customers.
• Release 5.0.14.4 - Released on July 2, 2025 - Enhanced the product to enable participation of the ERCOT RTC+B Market Trails submissions. We also added several new CRR related downloads that were introduced by CAISO with their CRR Replacement Project.
• Release 5.0.14.5 - Released on July 25, 2025 - Enhanced the product to enable participation of the PJM Regulation Redesign Phase 1 Market Trails submissions.
Adapt2 Green now connects directly to registries and exchanges, eliminating manual tracking and simplifying compliance reporting.
Consolidates Purchase Power Agreement (PPA), REC, and emissions tracking into a single platform for clearer oversight and faster reporting.
Provides live insights to optimize procurement strategies and respond to shifting carbon and REC prices.
A new feature now allows customers to configure and manage Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) and non-RPS compliance programs directly in the system. Users can set up emission contracts, inventories, and sustainability goals, such as net-zero targets, and track progress through built-in metrics and reports. This initial release supports federal and state mandates, REC and emissions registries, and benefits green energy customers, traders, settlement analysts, PPA managers, and risk managers.
Validated, preconfigured datasets have been added for multiple global markets including ERCOT, WECC, Europe, and Japan. Each package includes a structured PLEXOS® model, Excel input templates, dashboards, and quality assurance tools to speed up onboarding and modeling.
Customers can now access these datasets on the customer portal.
We’ve made it easier for you, and your organization, to submit, track, and influence ideas across the PLEXOS® platform.
What’s new for customers:
• Smarter idea submission: As you type, Xchange now shows related ideas to help reduce duplicates and increase collaboration with other users.
• Clearer status visibility: Ideas marked as Delivered, Not Considered, or Duplicate are now read-only, so you can easily distinguish active ideas from completed ones.
• Better idea review and prioritization: A new “Flag” option lets you mark any idea that appears inappropriate or out of date. These are reviewed weekly by the moderation team.
• More context, better prioritization: The idea submission form now includes additional questions about your intended outcome, region, and willingness to beta test. This helps us better understand your needs and match them to roadmap opportunities.
Every idea counts, whether you're submitting a request, surfacing a pain point, or voting for a change that matters.
Keep sharing your ideas in Xchange. They help shape what we build next.
